Local
Local connections are within a Module. A common connector is the Spade Terminal to JST XH, especially among arcade-style buttons and joysticks.
A JST XH 2P cable (2P = two wires) can connect a simple button (signal + common), it carry power (V + GND), or it can carry complex data such as the I2C serial protocol (SDA + SCL).

Bus
A Bus is a bundle of lines that runs between modules, ultimately connecting all devices to a microcontroller.
RJ45

The RJ45 standard is common and durable. The Cat5 cable standard is typically used for computer networks, and is sufficient for KontrolRack purposes. Cat5 cables are common, inexpensive, durable, and available in many colors and lengths.
An RJ45 jack connects 8 lines, in 4 pairs.

D-Series Cutout
The D-Series specification includes a panel-mount plate that covers a 24mm hole, held in place by two M3 bolts. Any connector or port that fits the 24mm hole can be accommodated by a D-Series plate.

Custom Interconnect Breakout Board
The interface between Local and Bus connectors can be through a custom-built breakout board. An Interconnect Breakout Board can be mounted to the Backplate of a Module.
